World-renowned photographer Dewitt Jones.
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. For Dewitt Jones, a photograph isnt just about the image.
Its not about the shutter speed, aperture, ISO or any other photo jargon. Its about the meaning behind the frame.
When he comes to speak June 14 at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe for a Childrens Cabinet event, photographic composition and technique will not be on his agenda. Despite the fact Jones has a resumé that lists a 20-year photographic career spent mostly at National Geographic and two Academy Award nominated films, Jones said he wants to focus on the lessons hes learned rather than he photos hes taken.
Ill show photos all the way through, and they are glorious, but I will show you more than just some great pictures Ive taken, he said. There is a reason I show them.
Photography has served as a metaphor for lessons in his life, Jones said.
Jones, who lives part-time near Zephyr Cove, will be the third speaker in the Childrens Cabinets Extraordinary Visions series. Previous speakers include Rex and Cathleen Lewis-Clack in October 2008 and Nando Parrado in September 2007.
Partial proceeds from this event will benefit the Homework Help Club and Read to Succeed Programs.
The event begins at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 14. Tickets range from $35 for general admission seating in advance, $45 for admission at the door and $60 for preferred seating. Tickets for youth under 18 are $20.
They can be purchased at the Childrens Cabinet at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center, Seasons, The Potlatch, Village Square Family and online at cciv.org/speaker. For information call (775) 831-7989.
The Childrens Cabinet is also looking for sponsors for the event. Sponsorships range anywhere between $500 and $1,000.
