INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The Lake Tahoe working group on nuisances will look at codes from other resort areas such as Mammoth Lakes, Calif., as it develops its own suggestions regarding lighting and signage, group chair Andy Whyman said.
The group met Monday morning and had an extensive discussion about signage, Whyman said. It will continue to evaluate codes regarding signs and present its findings at a public meeting Aug. 24 before submitting suggestions to the Citizen Advisory Board.
In July the group will look at lighting ordinances. Two meetings, one July 13 and one July 27, are scheduled for the group to discuss lighting rules with local lighting activist Paul Guttman.
“We want to eliminate the glare and reduce light pollution to preserve the views of the stars and the night sky,” Whyman said.
Group members include Bea Epstein, an Incline Village General Improvement District trustee; Blane Johnson, a local Realtor; Incline Village/Crystal Bay Citizen Advisory Board members Debbie Nicholas and Dave Zeigler; and community members Andrew Whyman and Pete Todoroff.
The group will meet through the end of September to identify specific nuisances for the Lake Tahoe area of Washoe County that could be written into a special part of the county's nuisance code.
By October the group hopes to submit suggestions to the CAB, Whyman said.
“We've gotten real serious about doing something with teeth in it,” he said. “We want as much community input in it as possible before moving forward.”
In other nuisance news the Washoe County Commission will hold a workshop to discuss the draft nuisance ordinance at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, in the May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno.
