INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — In May, the Red, White and Tahoe Blue steering committee raised enough money to secure a fireworks show this Fourth of July for Incline Village and musical entertainment for the event.
On Wednesday, RWTB eclipsed its original goal set in March to raise $80,000.
“We have received over 600 donations totaling just over $82,000,” said RWTB committee member Gerry Eick. “We have made our goal and look forward to a great event thanks to the generosity of great many supporters.”
In May, RWTB announced it finalized negotiations with Pyro Guys from Reno on a $35,000 fireworks contract. The entire show this year costs about $65,000.
At the time of that announcement, RWTB had collected about $56,000 in the community fundraiser.
With the extra money, RWTB is looking to secure musical entertainment for the third annual festival, which takes place July 2 to July 4. Bands interested should contact RWTB member Jim Smith at jim@servicesolutionsi.com or (916) 955-9705.
Money remaining will either be divided among the three benefiting nonprofits — the two Incline Village Rotary clubs and the Incline Schools Academic Excellence Foundation — or saved in a rainy day fund for next year's event.
Residents also can contact Smith if interested in this year's dunk tank event on July 3 at Incline Beach.
According to RWTB's website — redwhiteandtahoeblue.com — there are seven confirmed dunkees as of Thursday. They include: Incline resident Ed Gurowitz; Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe General Manager Mark Pardue; North Lake Tahoe Bonanza Editor Kevin MacMillan; Incline Village General Improvement District General Manager Bill Horn; RWTB committee member Tom Bruno and local real estate agent Cheryl Delehanty.
