INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — With about a month to go before the Incline Village Relay for Life, event organizers are looking for more participants, sponsors, volunteers and teams.
“We're really trying to make it a community event this year,” said the Rev. Dick Randall, who is organizing the event.
This year's overnight event from 4 p.m. July 24 until 7 a.m. July 25 will include the annual walk around Preston Field, entertainment and food. It will also include a canned food drive to support Project MANA.
Project MANA Director George Lebard will also cook for the survivors that night, Randall said.
So far the event has 26 teams and has raised $16,000, which means the event needs more participation before it can reach its goal of 40 teams and $60,000, said Melissa Reed, team development chair for the event.
“I am in desperate need of teams,” she said.
In addition, the event is also looking for sponsors by Friday, June 19. Any organizations or individuals interested can contact Randall at (775) 831-0784 or pastor@inclinechurch.org.
To bring the community closer to the event, Randall is also looking for local musical artists or restaurants who would like to participate.
“There are different opportunities for different folks,” Randall said. “It's going to be a fun event.”
Luminaria for the event are also on sale. They can be purchased online for $10 at relayforlife.org/inclinevillagenv.
Luminaria also can be purchased at the following venues: Potlatch, Nails by Cheri at Pro Hair, IVGID administration offices, The Incline Recreation Center, The Chateau, Diamond Peak, Jai Yen (Kings Beach), Rainbow Printing, Incline Outfitters and Village Square Family. Luminaria bought at Dress the Part(y), Blu Boutique and Seasons also entitles the customer to 10 percent discount on other merchandise at the time of purchase.
Personalize your luminaria and be sure to drop off the decorated luminaria by July 23 at the place of purchase.
Residents also can support Relay for Life this weekend by attending the event's garage and bake sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 at the Village Pub parking lot located at 848 Tanager St.
