Children are invited to pick up a luminaria to decorate and return for the Relay for Life event. This one is decorated for my sister.
Do you know what a luminaria is? You might have noticed bags outside at Halloween or Christmas as outdoor decorations with candles inside to light a pathway.
Each year in Incline Village a very special ceremony takes place at Preston Field for the American Cancer Society. Our community gathers together for a Relay for Life to raise funds for cancer.
The highlight of the entire evening is when it becomes dark at Preston Field and the luminaria bags that have been placed all around the field are glowing. Bags are decorated to honor or remember someone special for $10 per bag. The lighting ceremony is very special and moving for all.
I am offering all children in Incline Village and Crystal Bay from ages 1 to 15 the opportunity to stop at the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and pick up a luminaria (one bag per child) to decorate. We will donate the $10 cost of the bag for each child that picks one up.
All you need to do is decorate the bag and return it to our office by July 23. If you want, I will even have supplies available to help decorate. The bags can be decorated to honor or remember someone in your own family, friends or just decorated to be displayed at the Relay for Life lighting ceremony.
