LAKE TAHOE — The Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee areas will be under a red flag warning from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
NWS reports the area at greatest threat for critical fire conditions is along Interstate 80 from Truckee to Lovelock, and southward to Lee Vining in Mono County and Hawthorne in Mineral County.
Low pressure will pass North of the area Sunday and bring a period of gusty winds to the Eastern Sierra and Western Nevada, NWS reports. By Sunday afternoon, 30 to 35 mph winds are expected, with gusts at times upward of 40 mph.
“Sierra Ridge gusts in excess of 60 mph will occur from Donner Summit and Tioga Pass,” according to NWS. Humidity values will drop to 15 percent or less for areas along and east of Nevada Highway 395. Humidity in the Lake Tahoe Basin is likely to fall below 20 percent, NWS reports.
