INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Katelyn Wright finished one of the best high school careers of any Nevada athlete on Tuesday, shooting a 2-under 70 en route to easily winning the 2009 Nevada 2A golf tournament at Genoa Lakes golf Course, her fourth consecutive individual state title.
Wright, who shot an even-par 72 during Monday's first round, also led the Incline High School varsity girls golf team to its first team title since 2002.
"Katelyn's the kind of gal who would trade all those individual state titles for a team state championship," said Incline coach Joe Humasti after Tuesday's round. "This just puts the icing on the cake of her career."
Wright — who won the individual title by 26 strokes — joins Julie Dunn, golfing for Bishop-Gorman from 1992-1995, as the only Nevada high school golfers to go four-for-four in individual state golf titles.
Individually, Incline senior Gwen Paul finished fourth at the tournament, shooting a 194 overall (91, 103). Grace Dolan finished seventh (106, 101), followed by Michaela Tonking (18th; 112, 124) , Kassidy Garland (24th: 141, 123) and Natasha Cooper (33rd; 149, 175).
Freshman Sarah Thomas, golfing for Henderson International, finished second overall (88, 81).
The IHS girls golf program has enjoyed great success the past decade, as the Highlanders have been state runners-up as a team in 1999, 2003, 2004 and 2008. It also was a three time state champion from 2000-2002.
