Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month

Do you sometimes forget the names of acquaintances or misplace your belongings? This is a normal condition and most people have some of these experiences. It also does not mean you have Alzheimer's disease. Symptoms of this disease however are:

• Repeating things

• Forgetting conversations or appointments

• Routinely misplacing things, often putting them in illogical locations

• Forgetting the names of family members and everyday objects

• Mood swings

• Distrusting others

• Increased stubbornness

• Social withdrawal

• Depression

• Anxiety

• Aggressiveness

Another problem for someone with Alzheimer's is not being able to recognize or deal with numbers. Expressing thoughts with the correct words or understanding conversations can become difficult for someone with Alzheimer's along with reading and writing problems.

Alzheimer's disease can cause disorientation and even familiar everyday surroundings may no longer be familiar. Other everyday tasks might be difficult as well.

In recognition of November being National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month, Raley's in Incline Village is offering Alzheimer's Screening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30. If you are concerned about your memory or the memory of a loved one the screenings are free and confidential. For information go to nationalmemoryscreening.org.
