INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — This weekend will be the annual distribution of the Thanksgiving meals by Project MANA, and there is still time to donate. Because the need is so great this year, the organization still is about 100 turkeys short.
Congratulations to the Rev. Kathryn Dunning of Kings Beach who ran in a marathon in Folsom, Calif., Saturday and achieved her own personal best of less than 5 hours. And yes she was still able to stand up and give her sermon on Sunday morning. Way to go Kathryn.
If you have not yet met Connie Nowlin's new foster dog you must as it is both adorable — and adoptable — at www.tahoebonanza.com/connienowlindog. This little Maltese mix female can be yours.
Longtime local veteran Charlie Koontz has moved to a care center in Reno. He is at the Manorcare Health Center, 3101 Plumas Road, Reno, NV 89509, and I am sure would appreciate cards and notes. We miss you Charlie!
Birthdays to report this week include Ted Weeks and Kathryn Dunning on Nov. 17, Loren Campbell and Zander Wallpe on Nov. 20, Bea Epstein on Nov. 21, Brad Johnson on Nov. 23. Nov. 24 is Susan Johnson and Barb Archer, and Steve Calendrella on Nov. 25. Happy Birthday!
Happy 20th Anniversary to Wayne and Cindy McClelland on Nov. 25. Will the new kitchen be finished in time?
Incline High School graduate Brenden Darby (2008) is attending culinary school in Denver and planning a bike ride down the coast of California to Los Angeles and then will follow Route 66 to Chicago and on to New York City in 2010. To perform this ride, along with a friend, the plan is to cook in exchange for a place to sleep. To look at the plans and find out more about the adventure go to www.cook2crash.com. Good luck Brenden and we plan to follow this trip too.
Deals and steals for this week include the great deal on the LED lights at Ace Hardware, and make sure you get the lights up soon. The official lighting to celebrate Northern Lights sponsored by the Incline Community Business Association for the community will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. Another steal is the kickoff party for Toys for Tots that takes place at The Chateau from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2. All you need to bring in order to attend is one new unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots program.
Be sure to send your birthdays, anniversaries and any other news for the community to Jeick@tahoebonanza.com by 4 p.m. Tuesday each week.
