INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — As family, friends and neighbors gather for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays, it can be forgotten that many people in the community may not be lucky enough to have a place to celebrate.
But in Incline Village, where a can-do climate often overshadows any blustery weather, a plethora of nonprofit organizations are present, most of which are under the umbrella of the Parasol-Tahoe Community Foundation.
Their goal: to help those in need.
Just two years ago, the Bonanza asked Claudia Andersen, Parasol executive director, about those nonprofits. At that time, there were 50 housed in the Parasol alone, and it's estimated as many as 100 reside in the North Tahoe/Truckee community.
And while some may have come and gone the past two years, and new organizations have spruced up, the message remains: Indeed, plenty are in need.
This holiday season presents one of the more challenging ones in our history, given the challenge our nation's economy has to return to some semblance of its former girth. Many of those nonprofits have compiled a wish list of a gift they'd like to receive to make their holiday season.
Maybe you and your family would like to give thanks for the times your children traveled to events for Incline schools by helping the Booster Club purchase a new vehicle. Maybe you've hiked on the Tahoe Rim Trail many times and want to give back by donating to its organization. Or maybe you can help the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe with funding for a new club chef.
Or maybe you just want to submit an anonymous donation. Whatever you feel is appropriate, give thanks this holiday season by helping making some — if not all — of these wishes come true.
