I am not aware of any area at the beaches which will accommodate the sale of alcohol. Are we looking at new buildings? Will IVGID have cocktail waitresses roaming the beaches? Will the young students working at the food venues have to lose their jobs to older bartenders? There are a lot of legal issues with young people working in the same location where alcohol is being sold. Will IVGID have separate beverage service to the parking lots and sidewalks for the “free expression folk” or will they be excluded from the service? Will there be new wrist bands for drinkers and non-drinkers; separate beach areas for a drinker?
Will IVGID be hiring a full-time police force to deal with “drunken swimmers”? Will IVGID need to apply for a special liquor license for the beach properties? I believe anytime you sell alcohol at a venue you need to apply with the state liquor board. It will be interesting to see how this will be accomplished. Or will IVGID simply use its current license at the golf and ski venues? Aren't they declared separate? Or, are they only separate when you want to assess fees and when you exclude some of your citizens from public property?
Will IVGID be responsible for policing underage drinking? Sounds like fun — drunk parents, kids swimming, no problem? A board member calls this liquor sales idea a “cash cow.” I think it would be more of a “trashed crowd.”
Don't forget to vote, it is after all “your community.”
