INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — A big-rig driver was cited for speeding Tuesday afternoon after he barreled into a hairpin turn on the Mt. Rose Highway, causing his vehicle to tip onto its side, stymieing traffic for most of the evening.
Mark Regan of the Sierra Fire Protection District, one of the responders to the scene, said Lewis Sologub, the lone occupant of the vehicle, extricated himself and was uninjured. His load of dirt and construction debris spilled onto the highway.
Sologub declined to comment for this story.
According to Regan, the highway was reduced to one lane of through traffic for several hours while officers conducted an investigation and tow trucks help clear the semi. Five gallons of diesel fuel was spilled, and crews contained it quickly to the highway.
“There was no environmental damage,” Regan said.
Sologub was departed from a construction site in Kings Beach on was his way to Reno,
The vehicle tipped at approximately 4:12 p.m. in a similar fashion to the incident a week ago near the same location, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Kaplan.
“It's just one of those cases where a driver of a semi loaded with debris took the corner too fast,” said NHP Sgt. Mel Pecson.

Twice in two weeks
Last Monday, the highway was shut down for hours after an Incline Village-based big rig overturned at the exact same location, spilling debris on the road. Fortunately for Sologub, the Nevada Department of Transportation had completed repairs to the damaged guardrail just hours before his truck overturned.
Besides various debris, the rig's fuel tank leaked about 40 gallons of diesel onto the roadway. NDOT and Sierra Fire quickly responded to the scene, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol, and prevented the fuel from spilling off the roadway.
The driver, Carson City resident Russell Stokes, was likewise issued a citation for speed too fast for conditions.
