TOCCATA continues Big Blue Summer Musicfest 2010 with Baroque Brassy is Classy featuring Mark Lord and Robert Nagel.
On Saturday, Aug. 21, TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will continue their 21 Concert 2010 Big Blue Summer Musicfest with a concert series entitled “Baroque Brassy is Classy”. The first performance of the series is at 5:30 p.m. at the Steinway Piano Gallery at 500 E. Moana Lane in Reno, and features Vivaldi's Concerto for two trumpets in C major performed by Mark Lord and guest artist, Robert Nagel; and the Sonata for two trumpets and strings by Petronio Franceschini featuring William van Meter and Mr. Nagel.
The concert also features David Brock, organist, performing the Concerto for organ and strings, Opus 4 #2 in B flat by Georg Frederich Händel as well as several selections composed or arranged for brass, vocalists, and strings by Robert Nagel. The concert will finish with one of J.S. Bach's most enduring works, Cantata #147 “Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.” Vocal soloists include Toccata favorites Joy Strotz, Anna Helwing, and Michelle Norris, sopranos; and Stuart Duke, baritone.
Brassy is Classy will be repeated on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Incline Village and, again, on Monday, Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe. The final presentation of the series will be on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.
Tickets are $35 for reserved seating. Non-reserved seating is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, (62 and up), and $5 for students under 23 with a valid student ID. Children under 12 enter free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased in advance by credit card at www.ToccataTahoe.com or at the door by cash or check.
