What we glean from reading last week's editorial column by Ed Gurowitz is a Democrat who would vote for any contumelious yellow-dog Democrat regardless of the Republican opponent. His writings about Sharron Angle are just liberal Democratic talking points void of any evidence to support his negative rhetoric. So let's first evaluate what Harry Reid has accomplished for Nevada and America, and then wisely conclude why we do need Sharron Angle.
Reid has given Nevada the highest state unemployment rate in the country (14.3 percent), and our housing values throughout the state have tumbled almost 50 percent. Thanks Harry. Reid pushed through a stimulus package robbing the economic future of our children while promising that the unemployment which has now climbed to 9.6 percent would never go above 8 percent. Thanks Harry.
Reid, Obama and Pelosi pushed through a health care bill that few of our congressmen and senators even read while informing us that “they have to pass the health care bill so that we can find out what is in it.” Reid pushed through this health care bill, which drastically “Cut Funding for Medicare.” With all the included tax increases, it has proven to be a “job- killing bill.”
This bill is despised by almost 60 percent of our citizens and causing many state governors and attorney generals to challenge its economic wisdom and constitutionality. Reid maliciously and secretly brokered the Louisiana Purchase to obtain Mary Landrieu's vote; the Nebraskan Cornhusker kickback to secure Ben Nelson's vote. He never questioned President Obama's impossibly ignorant lie about the “3,000 percent” decrease we would see in our health insurance premiums. Instead we now see our premiums rising. Gee thanks Harry, we needed that.
He continues to push through spending bills that raise our national debt as if it means no more than raising a helium balloon at the state fair. Harry, what about our childrens' future that you are so recklessly spending away? Harry, why did you declare “The War is Lost” while our troops, the bravest, best trained and our proudest treasure in America, were still fighting and dying for our country. I am sure our military thanked you, Harry.
What does Sharron Angle want to accomplish if elected? Go to her website. Listen to her. Form your own opinions about her ideas.
She states that she wants to help save our Social Security and Medicare by preventing the likes of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi from raiding the trust fund and cutting its funding. Everyone knows that new ideas are necessary to make our social security solvent and available for future generations of American workers. Ms. Angle may believe in and want to study the feasibility of privatizing and individualizing these programs but has never recommended abolishing these safety nets for seniors. Harry, what are you doing to save Social Security and Medicare besides giving our money to your political allies and supporters?
On examining her opinion on eliminating the federal department of education and returning its functions back to the states, yes she feels that Nevada can and will do a better job for our children. She reconfirms that our Constitution was written to ensure states' rights, without the federal government interfering in every aspect of our lives. Public schools are failing our most at-risk children; some changes and new approaches are necessary
When Sharron Angle is quoted as saying that “government is the problem not the solution,” she is echoing the thought of many Americans and the late President Reagan. We all realize that Big Government is indiscriminately wasting our money on pork projects, political vote buying, failing social policies and now the dreaded “distribute the wealth,” which is killing the foundations of our beloved country and preventing the best ideas in our nation from surfacing.
So yes we need new voices with new ideas in Washington. We can no longer blindly succumb to the same old tired voices like Harry Reid. Whether Democrat or Republican, senator or congressman, whomever is so deeply entrenched and enamored with their own political power that they have forgotten that they work for us, the voters, not their friends, they need to be defeated. We do not want nor can we afford the likes of Harry Reid any longer.
