For the past two years, the annual Sierra Star Search competition has been won by Emily Morse, a very talented young student with an incredible voice. Each year she has easily won over the audience; its participation is what makes this such a fun event for both the performers and those attending.
The contestants for the event are selected by auditions, and this year 10 very talented young people will be appearing on stage at the Crystal Bay Club. Many of the contestants this year will perform original material. The top three winners will take home cash awards. First place receives $700, second place, $500, and third place receives $250.
The master of ceremonies will be Erika Martin, morning weather reporter at KRNV News Channel 4. The Sierra Star Search event is the finale for the annual Kids & Horses fundraiser, which supports therapeutic riding programs for children and adults with special needs.
Included in the Kids and Horses fundraiser is a western style barbecue, raffle, silent auction and live auction. The raffle will feature miniature golf, National Automobile Museum tickets, parasailing tickets, a ride on the Tahoe Queen and other fun items for the family. The silent auction features golf packages, travel packages, gift baskets and other specialty items.
The live auction will feature items such as entertainment packages; a backyard barbecue provided by the Brimm family of Shakespeare's Kitchen catering fame; a stay at the Ritz Carlton San Francisco paired with 49ers tickets, parking and a dinner in San Francisco; a locals favorite package including a stay at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, dinner for four at the renowned Lone Eagle Grille and sunset cruise on the Sierra Cloud; and an annual auction favorite, the wheelbarrow of booze.
