Meet your Neighbor, Paula Bonham, this week. She moved to Incline from the Bay Area about three years ago. It did not take long before she was totally immersed in the events and activities of our community. She is now on the board of the Pet Network and involved in AAUW.
Since moving here, Paula has continued to be an entrepreneur bringing two new businesses to the community. Her line of animal-themed apparel known as iRescue Rover Apparel features animal-themed products for all ages with sales benefiting animal rescue (www.iRescueRover.org).
She just recently opened her new boutique, Leniki, in the Village Center. The name is a variation of the Finnish word for “Dress,” which Paula found while researching both Czech and Finnish words to honor her parents whose heritage is in part Finnish and Czech.
The adorable little boutique clearly resembles a fashionable Bay Area boutique, and Paula's extra touches including chocolates for visitors and dog bones for the four-legged visitors are a hit with customers.
“The gift of candies and dog bones are a permanent fixture/treat for shoppers and visitors at Leniki, and sets the mood for a happy and fun shopping experience,” she said.
Men, women, children and dogs all are covered at Leniki and prices are reasonable. The boutique also carries gifts, jewelry and accessories. If you have not yet visited Leniki, stop in to see a very unique line of dresses, Leniki Lubor, feature paintings by Paula in the fabric design. The dresses have already been embraced by the Hollywood circuit, Spanish and French dress companies and of course locals.
“My goal is to continue to meet the community's needs and requests for positive shopping and ‘feel-good' experiences,” she said.
Paula is passionate about fine art, but also loves sports that she can enjoy with her family — husband, John, and 7-year-old son, Wyatt. She hikes with her three rescue dogs — Bagel, JJ and Rock Star — as well participates in AAUW hikes. Pilates, dancing and music are among other interests she enjoys along with the beauty of Lake Tahoe.
“I love the beauty of Lake Tahoe and the community of people who have chosen this quality of life — putting peace, nature and health (physical, spiritual, safety and community) first,” Paula said.
— If you know of someone in our community who is new, has been a longtime resident, is a great volunteer or just a great neighbor, contact Jean Eick at jeick@tahoebonanza.com.
