LAKE TAHOE — A winter storm watch is in effect for the Truckee/Tahoe region from Thursday afternoon through late Friday night, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.
The storm is expected to produce heavy snow Thursday evening and continue into Friday night, NWS reports. As much as 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected at lake level, with 2 to 4 feet possible above 7,000 feet.
Wind gusts as high as 50 mph are possible at lake level, with 100 mph gusts expected along the Sierra ridge.
A low pressure system will accompany the storm, NWS reports, bringing with it a cold front that will drop low temperatures to single digits over the weekend; wind chills below zero expected.
