TRUCKEE/TAHOE — Another fly-shop available to anglers under new management is located at the United Trails located at the Interstate 80/Hirschdale exit. The location is centrally located to some of the best fishing spots on the Truckee and Little Truckee rivers.
The shop is located on the United Trails Store/Deli and RV site. This has always been a great spot to stop and grab a great sandwich at the deli or those items that you forgot to bring with you at the well-stocked convenience store.
Robert Acevedo, a local angler born and raised in the area, is managing the fly-fishing shop. The shop will carry a supply of flies for the local area, terminal tackle and a small supply of rods and reels.
Acevedo plans to have classes for fly-tying and casting. He has even built a casting pond to teach classes. This casting site is open to the public and is available at no-charge. They only ask that you yarn instead of hooks.
According their website they carry a pretty wide selection of flies from Solitude and Umpqua as well as some locally tied patterns. Other brands of equipment that they will be carrying include RIO, Jay Fair, METZ, Hendrix Outdoor, Scientific Angler and others. They are also Nor-Vise dealer and have a demo vise.
On Father's Day, June 19 the shop is sponsoring a Father/Son or Daughter fly-casting competition as well as a free barbecue lunch. The competition runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rules are posted on the United Trails Website at unitedtrails.com/home.htm. Use the drop-down for the Rowdyville Fly Shop to view the rule.
If you get some time drop by the shop and checkout the Rowdyville Fly Shop. Their hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
