INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Extraordinary entertainment, fantastic food, family and friends will converge under the stars on the scenic shore of Lake Tahoe this summer as the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival presents its 39th season.
Featuring live entertainment seven nights a week from July 15 through August 21, the season is anchored by the festival's production of William Shakespeare's comic masterpiece, “Twelfth Night,” performed Tuesdays through Sundays each week at 7:30 p.m. The festival's Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee, directs the production.
“We promised our faithful audience a return to ‘real' Shakespeare last year — and we're delivering on that promise,” Fee said. “I am thrilled to be directing this wildly funny, deeply moving play. Expect a lavish production with gorgeous costumes, stunning sets and beautiful music — performed with wit and clarity by one of the most talented professional acting companies in the West.”
Shakespeare's “Twelfth Night” is sure to enchant the entire family. After a shipwreck on an unfriendly shore and the loss of her twin brother Sebastian, young Viola must pose as a man to survive. Shakespeare's sophisticated comedy of gender-bending mistaken identity is full of passionate longing and bittersweet romance. “Twelfth Night” is an irresistible and poignant comedy that is one of the Bard's most luminous plays.
In addition to its main stage production of Twelfth Night, the 2011 festival features:
• A Monday Night Showcase series: The Festival's five-event performance series features a diverse array of live musical and entertainment acts that range in style from Broadway to “genre-bending Americana” to “jam” band. Ticket prices vary. For a complete schedule, visit www.laketahoeshakespeare.com/playbill.
• Expanded Shakespeare's Vineyard wine tasting programming: Before each performance, patrons are invited to sample a three-tasting flight of Robert Mondavi Winery varietal wines for the price of $30. Select Wednesday performances feature Will's Wild Wednesdays enabling patrons to enjoy tastings of reserve wines from California and Italian vineyards for $35 per person. For complete info, visit www.laketahoeshakespeare.com/dining/shakespeares_vineyard.
• Extended pre-show dining hours at Shakespeare's Kitchen: The main gate to the festival's onsite dining area will open 5 p.m. to afford patrons more time to enjoy their pre-show meal.
• Handling fee-free ticketing: Ticket handling fees have been eliminated for all 2011 performances. The new, patron-friendly policy applies to all purchases.
• Assigned Lower Gallery seating: This enables patrons to avoid protracted early arrivals to stand in long lines to claim formerly open seating. In 2011, assigned beach chairs will be waiting for all patrons who purchase tickets in the Lower Gallery.
• Complimentary Upper Gallery beach chairs: Beach chairs will be available to all patrons in the Upper Gallery seating section. Open beach for blanket seating in the sand is also available.
Tickets for adults are between $25 and $85, and between $15 and $20 for youths under 15. They can ordered online at www.LakeTahoeShakespeare.com or by phone at 1-800-74-SHOWS.
