SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a man whose body was pulled from Lake Tahoe near Rubicon Point late last month.
Donald Christopher Windecker “was reported missing in July of 1994 when he was scuba diving in Lake Tahoe with a friend,” said Lt. Bryan Golmitz in a Monday statement. “According to the 1994 report, Donald Windecker experienced an unknown complication while diving, which resulted in him descending away from his diving partner and making it impossible for his partner to assist him to the surface.”
El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies used a remote operated vehicle to bring Windecker's body to the surface July 27. A deep water diver found Windecker in 265 feet of water July 23 and notified the sheriff's office.
