LAKE TAHOE — A winter storm warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. Monday for the greater Truckee/Tahoe region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Snow is expected to increase in intensity between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., NWS reports. An additional 15 to 30 inches of snow is expected above 7,000 feet, with 8 to 16 inches possible at lake level.
Regional highways continue to carry snow tire and chain restrictions; stay up to date at www.tahoebonanza.com/roadconditions.
After Monday, sunshine and mild temperatures in the upper-40s to lower-50s are expected to return by midweek.
The return of winter after a drier-than-normal December and January has ski resorts celebrating a healthy amount of natural snow back on the mountains.
According to the Snow and Grooming Report at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort, there are 64 inches of snow at upper mountain; 28 inches of snow have fallen so far in the current storm system, which began Thursday.
Over at Northstar California, the resort's summit has a 28-inch base; 41 inches of snow has fallen in the past 48 hours.
On the Nevada side, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe has a base depth of 26 to 39 inches; the resort has seen 19 to 23 inches of new snow the past 24 hours.
