Two games into league play, the Highlanders' challenging preseason schedule already seems to be paying dividends.
The Incline girls' basketball team opened Mount Rose League play with a couple of big home wins against lakeside rivals over the weekend, defeating South Tahoe 55-46 on Friday and Whittell 46-32 on Saturday.
Incline rode a huge fourth quarter to the win against the Vikings (2-2 league, 5-12 overall). Trailing 31-28 entering the final quarter, the hosts exploded for 27 points while holding South Tahoe to 15 down the stretch to secure the nine-point win.
Sophomore Kortney Solis scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Highlanders. Elise Nelson scored 13 points and dished three assists, Alexa Smith had 13 rebounds and three steals, and Tori O'Connor had nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
Against the Warriors (0-3, 2-10) the next day, O'Connor scored 14 points while finishing with six rebounds, four steals and four assists. Solis contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, Kerrie Tonking had six points and 11 rebounds, and Smith had 10 rebounds.
Incline improved to 2-0 in Mount Rose League play and 6-12 overall.
