SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A broken drive shaft is being blamed for an accident that sent a shuttle bus careening into a barrier on U.S. Highway 50 near Spooner Summit Tuesday morning.

The Harrah's Lake Tahoe shuttle carrying 18 passengers was eastbound at 9:30 a.m. when the drive shaft on the 2000 Ford E450 apparently broke, according to a statement from the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The driver, Cynthia Hendrickson, 57, was doing the speed limit, according to the statement.

When the driveshaft broke, the shuttle spun and its left front end collided with the concrete barrier.

One of the passengers suffered minor injuries and was taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Harrah's dispatched another shuttle to take the remaining passengers to the airport.
