The Incline and Sparks boys' basketball teams met twice in five days — and absolutely nothing was determined in terms of Mount Rose League supremacy.
The league-leading Highlanders traveled to Sparks last Thursday and dealt their former head coach a 51-50 defeat. But the Railroaders didn't have to wait long to avenge the loss, as they came to the lake and paid Incline back with a 66-58 road win on Tuesday.
Incline is now 5-1 in Mount Rose League play and 17-5 overall, while Sparks is 4-2 in league and 16-6. The Railroaders' other league loss came against South Tahoe.
After a pair of late free throws by Orin Porter Jr. lifted the Wolverines to the one-point victory Thursday, Sparks head coach Dan Schreiber, who coached at Incline from 1997 to 2010, got the best of his old team on Tuesday.
Incline led 14-12 after one quarter before the Railroaders, who pressured Incline with a full-court press from start to finish, caught fire, outscoring the hosts 24-15 in the second quarter to take a 36-29 lead into the halftime break.
Sparks continued to pour it on after the half, scoring 14 points to Incline's 10 to extend the lead to 50-39 entering the fourth.
Incline senior Bobby Thoms scored a game-high 20 points on four three-pointers, while Mitch Gehring and Jordan Wright each contributed 10 points, and Gehring had eight rebounds. The Railroaders were led by Erik Garcia, Brian Morgan, Xavier Rodriguez and C.J. Sampang, who all finished with double-digit points.
