While Incline Village may not have a Second Avenue with a Secondhand Rose like the one Barbra Streisand so famously sings about in “Funny Girl,” it does have a variety of sources to find furniture, clothes, decor, books, and even sports gear.
“Everything comes through eventually,” said Pat Collins, the Saturday manager of the Presbyterian Women’s Thrift Shop on Southwood Boulevard.

Incline Village’s secondhand supplies are unique because of the kind of donations they get, not many other secondhand stores can boast of a wide variety of men’s Burberry dress shirts like the Children’s Cabinet Thrift Store can.

“We have some wonderful people in town who donate great items,” said Dorith Grimm, a volunteer at the thrift shop which is right near the Presbyterian shop in the Village Center.

The Presbyterian thrift shop is Incline’s oldest, with multiple locations and 40 years under its belt, Collins said. It offers racks of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing. But the offerings don’t stop at duds. There’s also mattresses and an entire rack of sporting equipment from $10 ski boots to helmets. Next to the sporting equipment, check out the bookshelves filled with best sellers and old favorites. Paperbacks are 50 cents and hardback books are $2.

Over at the Children’s Cabinet Thrift Store mascot Monnier, a 14-year-old Scottish terrier, will greet you — right after a visit to the store’s $1 rack. Just on Wednesday the rack held a Max Studio wool sweater for $1. Inside, the store holds more racks of clothing and also a substantial selection of summer quilts, ranging from $15 to $25. Check out the men’s clothing area for an excellent selection of designer brands including Burberry, Perry Ellis, Banana Republic and more. There’s also an entire room for furniture finds including couches, chairs, tables and more.

And while Dress the Part(y) isn’t strictly a second hand store, it does offer up some second hand designer specialty clothes for men and women. And there’s a wide selection of vintage wears for costumes or bringing retro back.

“We have a mix of items,” said Linda Offerdahl, owner of the store. “We have great values in designer gowns and a wide selection of tuxes.”

Good to note for any girls or guys planning to attend Incline High School’s prom May 30. In fact Offerdahl will host a charity fashion show to support the Senior Safe and Sober Grad Night May 18 at the High School.

The other added benefit of shopping second hand in Incline is supporting the organizations each store contributes to. Dress the Part(y) picks a charity to support, the Children’s Cabinet Thrift Store uses its proceeds for its counseling and youth development programs and the Presbyterian shop’s proceeds go toward more than 40 charities, organizations and programs.
